FINAL OF THE WESTMORLAND CUP, U-13 Competition

Shireshead 56  Morecambe 57/5

Morecambe U-13s met Shireshead U-13s at Clifton Park last Sunday for the Final of their Cup Competition.  Morecambe won the toss and put Shireshead in on a damp wicket.  Opening bowler Alex Hill, with his accurate line and length demolished the early line-up, after the unfortunate run-out of Owain Houghton (5), and had a hattrick in his second over, followed by a fourth wicket 2 balls later in the same over.  After his first spell of 4 overs he had 5 wickets under his belt.  Opener Alex Wain (19) was the only batsman of the early part of the innings able to withstand the onslaught and with Steven Foy (3) put on a patient 24 for the 8th wicket.  After their departure, the baton was taken on by Peter Bevan (10) and Rowan Upton (2no) and they took the score to 56.

Hill’s final figures were 6-2-9-7.

In reply, Morecambe’s openers were surprised by the accuracy of Luke Bray’s (2/6) bowling followed by the leg spin of Rowan Upton (which would have done credit to Shane Warne), so that 5 wickets fell for 34 runs.  Upton (2/14) took 2 wickets in 2 balls but failed to gain his hattrick by the arrival of Kal Ahmed (28no), who proceeded with Hill (14 no) to attain the required runs to take his side to victory in the 17th over.  Hill’s 14 came off 10 balls and included a four and a six.

The Man-of-the-Match for Morecambe was awarded to Alex Hill for his fine bowling and batting.  Rowan Upton was ajudged the Shireshead Man-of-the-Match for his bowling and determined batting.

The Umpires were Mike Davies and Jim Kellett.
