6th June
The 1st team match at Windermere was abandoned after heavy rain.
Holme 108 all out Shireshead A 110 for 6 The term "catches win matches" was very evident on
Saturday, as Shireshead completed back to back victories. Electing
to bat first, the newly promoted visitors’ innings commenced with a big six
in the opening over. The openers Swart (6) and Andy MacFarlane (15) started
aggressively, but fell to brilliant caught and bowled dismissals from Joy
Arun (2/11). Once again Alan Moulsdale (4/7) bowled a perfect line
removing left-handers Barnes (18) and Simcox (18) in classic off spinner dismissals
to first slip. The veteran bowling from the pavilion end was assisted
with bounce and turn from his very accurate twelve overs.
At 90 for 5 with thirteen overs remaining leg spinner
Jack Dodd (3/17) was introduced to the attack. In his second over he removed
Cotton(15) with a delivery pitching leg and hitting the top of off stump. The
combination of the two spin bowlers polished off the Holme innings for 108 in
the 41st over.
This was an excellent fielding and bowling
performance from the home team which included nine catches.
The Shireshead reply became a "one man show" as Robert
Jacques (62) caressed the ball to all parts of the Park. It was a pleasing sight
as the young man found his form in this innings, which included ten fours and
two big maximums. Despite the loss of four quick wickets for ten runs with Barnes
(3/23) causing the scare, Sam Clarkson (10 n/o) and Peter Dodd (6 n/o) held
their nerve and steered the home side to victory, with twenty overs remaining.

Holme won the
toss and elected to field first. After the dismissal of Shireshead’s openers
for 19 runs, Mehul Vyas (15) and young Alex Taylor(16) put on a creditable 19
for the third wicket and Taylor was out when the score was 51. The
only other player to get into double figures was Alex Bantleman (11).
Alan Littlefair (3/20) and veteran Mick Fawcett (3/12) did most of the
damage, aided by good catching in the field.
In reply, Holme steadily accrued runs, despite the depredations of Graham Rand (4/34) taking out both openers, Eddie Bibby (6) and Alan Blackburn (0) in the first 9 overs. There was a period of stabilisation in the middle of the innings with the partnership of Carl Weiss (13) and Tim Raine who, in what turned out to be the penultimate over, was out lbw to Rand for 28, which included six fours. They reached the required total in just 23.2 overs.
