Saturday 15th August

Cartmel (1) 204 for 4 dec. Shireshead A (12) 207 for 7
Relegation haunted Cartmel were inserted by stand in skipper Mark Sutcliffe. An opening stand of 66 between Bob Simpson (110 n/o) and Will Anderson 25

gave the visitors an excellent start.Bob Simpson first century of the season included ten fours and three sixes, and carried his bat to the declaration in the 39th over.

The home side spilled six catches during Cartmels innings of which four were given by the centurion.

Inspired by the visitors declaration the Clifton Park men started well with an opening stand of 56 from Simon Harrison (36) and Jack Dodd (28).

Further contributions from Sam Hilton (34) and Liam Parkinson (42) steered the home side to victory with two overs to spare.

 

Saturday 22nd August

Shireshead A (10) 110 all out Holme (3) 93 for 9
Holme asked Shireshead to bat first and lost Simon Harrison (3) in the third over. At 43 for 1 the visitors looked to be gaining the momentum, but the loss of six wickets for 14 runs put the home side back in control.J.Slater (6/46) and J.Bibby (2/16) caused havoc for the middle order with only Graham Swindlehurst (16) giving an resistance.A cameo from veteran Malcolm Taylor (35) took the visitors to 110 all out in the penultimate over.

An opening stand of 58 from A.McFarlane (14) and D.Swart (33) put the home side firmly in control.But despite the good work from the openers the middle and late order collapsed.From 58 for 1 to 89 for 9 the Horsemen fought their way back into the game and nearly took all the points.

A long and excellent bowling spell from Malcom Taylor(21-10-19-5) and assisted by Jack Dodd (4/36) wrestled the game back in the visitors favour.

The home side survived a dropped catch in the final over to hang on for a draw.

 

Saturday 29th August

Shireshead (15) 101 all out Milnthorpe (3) 96 all out
Winning the toss home skipper Simon Moulson elected to bat first. The loss of Jack Dodd (0) second ball and Mark Sutcliffe (4) put the visitors in control.

Simon Harrison (22) batted well before Chris Norman (5/31) bowled the youngster with score on 40.At 63 for 4 Chris Norman removed Dave Riley(8),Simeon Glen(0) and Nick Harrison(0) to a fine hat-trick. Chris Norman has been the Achilles heel to Shireshead this season with six wickets and 46 in the fixture at New Road.

 Alex Taylor (12) took the innings to three figures as the home side were dismissed for 101.

The visitors commenced their reply causiously and lost C.Whitehouse (3) in the fourth over. A partnership of 47 from Kevin James (27) and Chris Norman (22) seemed to be pushing the visitors towards victory. But due to a back spasm Kevin James retired hurt returning later and this was the turning point in the match.

The taylor family father and son took the pludits as Malcolm (3/26) and his son Alex (5/11) reduced Milnthorpe to 91 for 8.In between the Taylors heroics Jack Dodd took two for 17 in his five over spell.

The last two wickets fell for five runs as Milnthorpe were dismissed for 96 both bowled by Alex Taylor.The victory was ironic due to Milnthorpe winning the previous match earlier in the season by the same margin.
